Talk to the bank clerk with 5,000 cash.
Laundering, step by step
No base yet: Lenny launders for you, for a cut. Lenny’s stash also holds up to 150,000 that can’t be stolen — keep it topped up (two players’ guides agree).
With a base: build a laundering desk (Kefir massively raised its capacity on Nov 4). Feed it dirty cash; clean money lands in your account, even offline.
Faster: a Banknote Counter speeds it up; laundering speed also depends on your settlement’s level and on clan-held districts (power pyramid).
Taxes: living in someone else’s settlement, the owner takes a cut of what you launder.
⚠️ Server restarts on Nov 6 left many players reporting lost cash from their bags (Steam discussions). Launder big sums instead of carrying them.

Money already in your bank account can't — Kefir: 'laundered cash is safe from thieves'. Cash in your bag, trunk or base can. Whether cash sitting in the laundering desk is fully safe is disputed: one guide says yes, fan data says up to 20,000 can be taken at a time ⚠️.
How do I get money back out?
Withdraw at an ATM or the bank clerk. Once it's cash in your pocket it's losable again.
